Abstract: This work concentrates on the analysis of the echocardiographic part of our complex investigation which determined the characteristics of work capacity, the cardio-respiratory system and the nervous system. Professional healthy male soccer players of the best clubs of Estonia (n=236) aged 17 to 31 years were examined. Athletes were divided into three age groups. All tests were performed in the same training period. The statistical analysis of all characteristics (ANOVA-test, Pearson product moment correlation) allows us to conclude that the character of heart development depends on age. Soccer’s sport-specific effect on heart produces an adaption where both the dilatation and the wall thickening of the heart occur moderately but not at the same time.

Mental Toughness in Relation with Mental Health of Sports Persons

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between mental toughness and mental health viz; depression, anxiety and stress among sports persons. Participants were 80 athletes (Male = 40; Female = 40) within the age range of 17 to 21 years. Data were collected using Mental toughness questionnaire (MTQ-48) – Peter Clough, (2002) and Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS-21) – Lovibond & Lovibond (1995). Results revealed that there existed significant negative relationship of mental toughness with depression and anxiety but not with stress of sports persons. The implications for the present study were discussed.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to test a new method to predict the kinematics of center of mass (COM) during the take-off phase of the handball shot by mean of multilayer perceptron neural networks (MLPs) based on data from only the force platform. Ten trials’ of handball jump shot data from the force platform were obtained. The kinetic data of jump shot trials (force, impulse, and work) were used to feed the net and the data from the force platform kinematics (acceleration, velocity, and displacement) was used to evaluate the production data of the MLP neural network model. A commercial artificial neural network software was used to predict the target kinematic parameters (NeuroDimension, 2014®). The Pearson correlations of all Kinetics parameters between the original and production data was >0.99. The MLPs model successfully predicted the target kinematics depending on kinetics in the handball jump shot under the conditions of this study.
